British energy company Centrica, the parent company of British Gas, has announced plans to cut approximately 1,300 jobs as part of a major restructuring programme. 

The company said the changes are intended to improve operational efficiency and reduce long-term costs while adapting to changing market conditions. 

Centrica said it will continue investing in customer service, renewable energy projects and digital technology despite the workforce reduction. 

Company executives described the restructuring as necessary to strengthen the business for future growth. 

The announcement comes as energy companies across Europe continue adjusting their operations in response to changing energy markets, rising investment costs and the transition toward cleaner energy sources. Analysts say many firms are reviewing their cost structures while investing in new technologies. 

Employee representatives have expressed concern over the planned job losses and are expected to engage with company management during the consultation process. Centrica said it will provide support for affected workers throughout the transition. 

Industry experts believe the restructuring reflects broader changes taking place across the energy sector as companies seek to remain competitive while investing in long-term sustainability initiatives.
