Google Fined €890 Million by European Union Over Competition Rules

Last Updated: July 24, 2026By

The European Commission has fined Google €890 million after concluding that the technology company unfairly favoured its own services in search results and app distribution.

Regulators said the practices harmed competition and limited opportunities for rival businesses across the European digital market.

Google said it disagrees with the decision and is considering its legal options. The company maintains that its products are designed to benefit users while supporting innovation across its ecosystem.

However, European regulators have continued increasing scrutiny of large technology firms under stricter digital competition laws.

The latest penalty adds to several previous antitrust actions against Google in Europe over search, advertising and mobile operating systems.

Analysts believe the decision could require changes to how the company presents search results and promotes its services within the European Union.

Businesses that depend on Google’s platforms are also monitoring the case closely because any regulatory changes could affect online advertising, app distribution and digital marketing strategies across Europe.

Industry experts say the ruling demonstrates that global regulators remain committed to increasing oversight of major technology companies as digital markets continue expanding.
