Meta is testing a new artificial intelligence application known as StoryKit that enables parents to create personalised bedtime stories for children.
The application generates stories using custom characters, settings, moral lessons and background music, requiring only minimal input from users.

Parents can upload photographs of favourite toys or family members to inspire story characters before selecting the type of adventure and lesson they would like the story to communicate.

Meta says the application includes safety measures and is currently available only to adults in selected countries as part of a limited trial.
The company describes StoryKit as a creative tool designed to encourage personalised storytelling.

However, the introduction of artificial intelligence generated bedtime stories has sparked debate about whether technology should replace one of the oldest forms of human creativity and family bonding.

Critics argue that storytelling has always been an important way for parents to connect with their children, encouraging imagination and emotional development through spontaneous conversation rather than computer generated narratives.

Others believe artificial intelligence should be viewed as a tool that complements, rather than replaces, traditional storytelling. Meta says the pilot programme will help determine how parents respond to the technology before any wider release.

The company has not announced when the application may become available in additional countries.
