Truecaller Introduces Family Protection Feature That Can End Scam Calls Remotely
Truecaller has unveiled a new safety feature designed to help families protect one another from fraudulent calls. The caller identification platform now allows a designated group administrator to monitor potential scam calls received by family members and even terminate suspicious calls remotely if a threat is suspected.
The innovation aims to strengthen digital safety within families as phone scams continue to rise globally. The feature allows a tech-savvy user to manage a small family group of up to five members. Once members join the group, the administrator receives alerts when any member receives a call flagged as potentially fraudulent.
If the admin believes the call poses a risk, they can immediately disconnect it on behalf of the user. While alerts function on both iOS and Android devices, the remote call-ending capability currently works only on Android phones.
In addition to scam call alerts, Android users can grant the administrator access to certain phone activity indicators such as whether the user is walking, driving, battery status, or if the phone is set to silent mode. According to the company, this feature is particularly helpful for families who want to monitor the safety of elderly relatives or ensure calls are made at convenient times.
The administrator can also create shared blocklists to prevent calls from suspicious numbers or certain international dialing codes. However, Truecaller emphasized that administrators cannot access members’ private call logs or text messages, ensuring a level of privacy within the system.
Truecaller executives say the feature represents a shift toward broader family-focused security solutions. With billions of fraudulent calls detected globally each year, the company is also exploring artificial intelligence tools that could automatically detect scam patterns and disconnect suspicious calls before users become victims.
