AI Startup Thinking Machines Lab Partners With Nvidia in Major Computing Deal
Thinking Machines Lab, an artificial intelligence research company founded by OpenAI co-founder Mira Murati, has entered a significant multi-year partnership with semiconductor leader Nvidia.
The agreement will see the startup deploy at least one gigawatt of Nvidia’s advanced Vera Rubin computing systems beginning in 2027.
Although financial details of the deal were not disclosed, Nvidia confirmed that it is also making a strategic investment in the young company.
Since its launch in February 2025, Thinking Machines Lab has raised more than $2 billion from investors, including Andreessen Horowitz, Accel, Nvidia, and the venture arm of AMD. The company is currently valued at over $12 billion.
Thinking Machines Lab focuses on developing artificial intelligence models designed to produce highly reliable and reproducible results.
Its first product, an application programming interface known as Tinker, was introduced in October and is aimed at enabling developers to experiment with advanced AI systems more effectively.
The partnership with Nvidia also includes plans to develop specialized training and serving systems built on Nvidia’s computing architecture.
Murati described the collaboration as a major step toward accelerating the development of AI tools that people can customize and shape for their own needs.
The agreement highlights the growing demand for computing power in the artificial intelligence sector. Industry leaders predict that companies could spend between $3 trillion and $4 trillion on AI infrastructure before the end of the decade.
As competition intensifies, partnerships between AI startups and chip manufacturers are expected to play a crucial role in advancing the next generation of AI technologies.
