OpenAI Policy Executive Dismissed Following Discrimination Allegatio
Ryan Beiermeister, OpenAI’s former vice president of product policy, was dismissed in January following allegations of sex discrimination raised by a male colleague, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal. Beiermeister has denied the claims, calling them “absolutely false.”
The report indicates that Beiermeister’s termination followed internal disagreements over a proposed ChatGPT feature referred to as “adult mode,” which would introduce erotic content into the chatbot. OpenAI executives have previously stated that the feature is expected to launch in the first quarter of the year.
Sources cited by the Journal said Beiermeister and other staff members raised concerns about how the feature could affect certain user groups.
However, OpenAI reportedly maintained that her departure was unrelated to any policy objections she voiced while employed at the company.
In a statement, OpenAI acknowledged Beiermeister’s contributions, emphasizing that her termination followed a leave of absence and was not connected to internal debates.
Requests for comment sent to OpenAI and to an email associated with Beiermeister went unanswered at the time of publication.
Beiermeister’s professional background includes four years on Meta’s product team and more than seven years at Palantir, according to her LinkedIn profile.
