Crypto.com Buys AI.com for $70 Million Ahead of Super Bowl Launch
Crypto.com has made history with the reported $70 million purchase of the AI.com domain, marking the most expensive domain acquisition ever recorded.
According to the Financial Times, the deal was completed entirely in cryptocurrency and finalized just ahead of the Super Bowl.
Founder and CEO Kris Marszalek plans to unveil AI.com during the game, positioning it as a gateway to a consumer-facing personal AI agent designed for messaging, app interaction, and stock trading.
Marszalek described artificial intelligence as one of the defining technological shifts of the next two decades.
The sale eclipses previous record-setting domain purchases, including CarInsurance.com and VacationRentals.com, reinforcing the crypto industry’s reputation for bold, high-stakes spending.
The broker who facilitated the deal described AI.com as a once-in-a-generation digital asset with no viable substitutes.
Despite the eye-popping price tag, skepticism remains over whether premium domains reliably generate returns.
Still, for Marszalek, who already owns Crypto.com and previously invested heavily in sports branding, the acquisition appears to be a strategic bet on long-term relevance rather than short-term payoff.
