Yellow Peas Imports to Face 30% Duty, Begins November 1
The import of yellow peas into India will face a combined duty of 30% starting November 1, 2025, according to a notification from the Department of Revenue.
The total duty will consist of a 10% standard rate and a 20% Agriculture Infrastructure and Development Cess (AIDC), and will apply to all shipments for which the Bill of Lading is issued on or after the effective date.
This policy change reverses the government’s earlier decision in May that allowed duty-free import of yellow peas until March 2026.
This move could significantly impact domestic prices and supply chains for a key pulse crop.
Several other regulatory changes are set to take effect on November 1, including amendments to the bank nomination process (allowing up to four simultaneous nominees) and the continued waiver of charges for mandatory biometric updates for children’s Aadhaar cards.
