Huawei Unveils Advanced AI Infrastructure Amid Nvidia’s Exit from Chinese Market
Huawei has introduced a new artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure designed to expand computing power and strengthen its competitive edge against leading chipmaker Nvidia.
The announcement came on Thursday during the company’s Huawei Connect conference in Shenzhen, China. At the event, Huawei revealed its SuperPoD Interconnect technology, which enables the linking of up to 15,000 graphics cards, including its in-house Ascend AI chips, to significantly boost compute capacity.
The development positions Huawei as a direct challenger to Nvidia’s NVLink system, which supports high-speed communication between AI processors. Although Huawei’s AI chips are generally less powerful than Nvidia’s, the ability to cluster thousands of units together could provide developers with the scale needed for training and expanding advanced AI systems.
The timing of the announcement is notable, coming just a day after Beijing barred domestic technology firms from purchasing Nvidia hardware, including the RTX Pro 600D servers specifically designed for the Chinese market. The restriction creates a vacuum that Huawei appears ready to fill with its latest innovation.
Huawei has yet to release additional details on the rollout of the new infrastructure.
