Boring Company Halts Vegas Airport Tunnel Project Following Worker Injury
Elon Musk’s Boring Company has suspended construction on its Las Vegas airport tunnel project after a worker suffered a serious injury on Wednesday night.
According to reports, Nevada’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has launched an investigation into the incident. The Clark County Fire Department confirmed that it received a distress call at 10:12 p.m. and dispatched an 18-member rescue crew to the site.
Authorities stated that the injured worker was removed from the tunnel using an on-site crane and is currently in stable condition. However, details surrounding the exact cause of the injury remain unclear.
The Boring Company has been developing a network of underground tunnels in Las Vegas for several years. The system currently connects the Las Vegas Convention Center with select hotel casinos and has recorded more than three million rides across its 3.5-mile route.
The company envisions a broader expansion that would eventually link much of the city, including McCarran International Airport. Despite these ambitions, the project has faced challenges, with multiple reports of workplace injuries. A former safety manager for the Las Vegas project has also raised concerns publicly about conditions at the sites.
