A Strategic Cooperation Framework has been signed between Smart Africa and Germany’s development agency GIZ to revolutionize digital health in Africa, thereby achieving a substantial improvement in the continent’s healthcare system.
The agreement, which was executed today, is consistent with Smart Africa’s overarching goal of expediting the sustainable digital development of its more than 40 member nations.
The primary objective of the partnership will be to establish a framework that is moral, values-based, and secure for the exchange of health data among African nations.
This involves the establishment of digital standards, the coordination with global health data security guidelines, and the assurance of system compatibility.
GIZ contributes both technical experience and financing, while Smart Africa provides a comprehensive network of national ICT ministries, policymakers, and private sector partners.
Their shared objective is to establish scalable health data platforms that can more efficiently monitor, diagnose, and deliver healthcare services.
Several international health think institutes and the World Health Organization have commended this collaboration, recognizing Africa as a significant player in the advancement of global health technology.
This may be the most well-organized strategy that Africa has implemented to date for achieving digital Universal Health Coverage (UHC), according to observers.
