OpenAI has announced the initiation of a new memory function in ChatGPT, enabling the chatbot to customize its responses to users based on prior talks.

The business states that the tool, labeled as “reference saved memories” under ChatGPT’s settings, is designed to enhance the relevance of interactions with users.

The upgrade would enhance ChatGPT’s text, speech, and image-generation capabilities by including conversational context, the firm said.

The new memory function will initially be available to ChatGPT Pro and Plus members, except those located in the U.K., EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland.

OpenAI states that these places require further external evaluations to adhere to local legislation; yet, the business is dedicated to ultimately providing its technology in those areas.

OpenAI has no updates on a launch for free ChatGPT users.

A spokesman said, “Our current emphasis is on the implementation of paid tiers.”

The objective of the new memory function is to enhance ChatGPT’s fluidity and personalization, eliminating the need to repeat previously supplied information.

In February, Google introduced a comparable memory capability in Gemini.
