Roblox, the popular gaming platform that is designed for preteens, has implemented significant changes to its safety policy in the past year in response to allegations of inadequate safety measures for children.

These changes could potentially expose children to risks such as grooming, explicit content, and violent material.

The company disclosed three new parental control features on Wednesday, which include the capacity to restrict access to specific experiences or individuals on their child’s friend list, as well as the capacity to monitor the experiences in which their child spends the most time.

The platform is a popular destination for children to play. In order to access the new controls, parents must first link their Roblox account to their child’s account after authenticating their identity with a credit card or ID. Then, they can supervise their child’s experience by accessing “Parental Controls.”

The new friend-blocking feature takes it a step further by enabling parents to report and block individuals they believe may be detrimental, thereby preventing them from direct messaging their child.

In the past, parents were able to examine their child’s friend list. It is important to note that children under the age of 13 are unable to enable users that their parents have restricted. However, they may request permission from their parents to conduct this action.

Although parents are already able to evaluate or modify the content maturation level on their child’s account, this new experience-level barring feature provides them with more precise control. This is accessible to children.

Furthermore, parents are able to view the 20 experiences that their child has participated in the most over the past week, arranged by the total amount of time spent. Roblox previously introduced the capability for parents to regulate and restrict their child’s daily screen time.
